How to Add Customer Reviews & Testimonials to Shopify
Add a testimonial widget to your Shopify store using a Custom Liquid section — no app, no monthly app fee, and no theme code editing. Approve testimonials, copy the snippet, and place it on product or home pages to build buyer confidence right where it counts.
Step by step
- 1
Approve your testimonials
Approve the testimonials you want to display in your LovedBy dashboard so only your best, on-brand feedback goes live.
- 2
Copy your embed snippet
From the Embed tab, copy the script tag and the testimonial-widget element pre-filled with your project slug.
- 3
Add a Custom Liquid section
In your Shopify theme editor (Online Store → Themes → Customize), add a Custom Liquid section or block to the page where you want testimonials and paste the snippet. The Custom Liquid block accepts HTML and script tags directly. The Embed tab generates this snippet already filled in with your project slug, so you can paste it as-is. The script loads once; the element renders your approved testimonials wherever you place it.
- 4
Save and preview your storefront
Save and preview on the live storefront. The widget renders near your buy button or on your home page, and stays in sync as you approve more testimonials.
Where should you show testimonials on Shopify?
Put a focused two or three testimonials on the product page near the add-to-cart button, where trust converts directly into checkouts. Place a fuller wall of love on your home page or a landing page to establish overall store credibility.
Product-specific proof outperforms generic store praise: a quote about the exact item a shopper is viewing answers their doubt far better than a wall about the brand in general. Use the theme editor to add a Custom Liquid block in the product template so it appears across products.
Will the widget slow down my Shopify store?
No. The widget is small, loads asynchronously, is CDN-cached, and degrades gracefully if anything hiccups, so it never blocks rendering. That matters on Shopify, where mobile speed and your store's conversion rate are tightly linked.
Because it isn't a Shopify app, it also doesn't add background scripts or admin overhead the way many review apps do — you're loading one lightweight component, not a platform.
Do I need a Shopify app to add testimonials?
No. The built-in Custom Liquid block is enough to embed your wall of love, with no install from the Shopify App Market and no recurring app subscription. That keeps your theme lean and avoids yet another tool in your stack.
If your theme is older and lacks a Custom Liquid block in the section you want, you can add the snippet to a section via the theme code editor, but most modern Online Store 2.0 themes support Custom Liquid blocks directly in the customizer.
